I have a fashion design degree that has led me to where I am today. When you are buying a bespoke garment such as a wedding dress from a design studio it will all start with a sketch. An illustration of the garment will be done before it is then made and brought to life. Buying from a boutique that has lots of different designers means you may not get that. I myself purchased my wedding dress from a wonderful local boutique, I didn't know where to start when searching for my outfit and so I went to look at the most beautiful varying selection of dresses. I actually fell in love with what became my wedding dress that day and the way it made me feel and so that was that, I had chosen 'the one'! I love the illustration part of the design process. The fashion design side of me really wanted that illustration of the dress though! After creating artwork for different relatives' and friends' wedding anniversaries it all just took off from there! The perfect gift for a first anniversary perhaps when the gift to give is paper?!
Live illustration or reportage illustration as it is also known goes back a long time. Used as a way to visually document events, a news story, a moment in time. It is the perfect way to document a visual version of the story or in this case your story!
My husband often laughs and it is a bit of a running joke - 'Jen's memory box' but I love looking through the items I have kept. The photographs from my film camera, the receipts from different places we have visited, plane tickets, random drawings and notes from various walks and cities. Don't get me wrong I think there is a time and a place for digital memories but I don't think there is anything better than physically looking through a photo album or sketchbook or a handwritten diary.
It's the reason I am just so grateful to be able to capture your moments in an illustrated story. Creating that selection of artwork for you to look back on or frame to go alongside your photographs. To be able to be a part of how you look back on your celebration of love is truly an amazing feeling!
